update: Public Prosecution Detains Cat Abuser for 7 Days In response to what was published by “Al-Bilad” newspaper regarding a widely circulated video on social media showing the abuse of a small cat by a teenager in a residential building in the Muharraq Governorate, Mr. Mahmood Faraj, Chairman of the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA), confirmed that the Muharraq Governorate Police Directorate promptly responded to the report and began investigating to identify the suspect. The investigation led to a minor whose involvement was confirmed through witness testimony and surveillance camera footage, despite initial denial. The video showed the child abusing a second cat as well. The suspect fled the scene but was later identified. The boy was referred to the Family and Child Prosecution, which ordered his detention at the Juvenile Reform Center for seven days and referred him to a medical committee to assess his mental capacity. Mr. Faraj extended his thanks to the Director of Muharraq Security, the Chief of Muharraq Police Station, the Head of the Investigations Department, Lieutenant Colonel Yousif Ahmed Al Malek, and Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain, the Public Prosecutor, for their swift response to the incident. He further stated that the abused cat received the necessary medical treatment for multiple fractures, including surgery to amputate one of its legs. He also noted that both abused cats have now been adopted by two volunteers who took responsibility for their care, expressing his gratitude for their compassion and efforts.
